Did she get laughing gas?

Sugery..tears? NOT A CHANCE!

Yesterday Alexia went in to have her toe fixed. They put a screw threw it to hold it in place and prevent it from dislocating any more. The Doctor felt like since it had been out for so long that the tendons were all ripped and couldn't hold it in place. So this is a permanent way of making sure she can feel confident when she dances that it won't happen again.
So I was warned by many people who had kids that have had surgery just what to expect-emotional, crying all the time, depression, more crying..YOU WERE ALL WRONG! My cute daughter handles things just a bit different-she laughs and laughs.
As the nurse prepped her for surgery, Lex was really worried about getting an IV, she hates needles and had to have blood drawn the week before. She said it hurt but it was pretty quick. Next the anesthesiologist puts in the sleeping medicine and tells her it might make her giggly and it did! She starts to giggle and giggle and cover her mouth wondering why she feels like giggling. Then I lose it and start laughing my head off at her, she starts laughing harder and points at me which makes me lose it again. So as they are wheeling my beautiful daughter away, at what I thought would be a horrible point of the morning, she is laughing and pointing at me until she can't see me anymore. I can't stop laughing at the sight and return to the somber waiting room with poor people who are waiting for their operations and here comes this crazy mother laughing after her daughter is wheeled away. I had to go into the bathroom to compose myself, but not until after a couple more snorts came out. Then they came and got us to be with her when she woke up. It took about 40 minutes. She was sleeping pretty soundly, but the heart monitor was beeping with every heart beat and that started to annoy her so she kept looking back at it with a sour look on her face then she would go right back to sleep. She sleep pretty good, but as soon as it started wearing off she felt the pain. Probably the closes she got to breaking down and crying, but wait, her Doc gave her some pretty powerful pain meds and guess what happens..yes the laughing starts again! She just looks at me and starts cracking up and then cracks up that she is cracking up and then laughs at the way she is laughing. I have a headache from the laughing so I can't laugh any more, but not Lexi. Hopefully the closes we will ever get at seeing her drunk. Yes it does wear off after a while, but I am just so glad this hasn't been as traumatic as I thought it would be. It probably shows the kind of people we are as a family, me and Brooks try to laugh at most situations and make the best of it and I think it has passed on! Lets hope the rest of the recovery can be as funny!
Thank you everyone for your well wishes to her! She has been showered with flowers and friends and wonderful dinners and ice cream from grandpa and grandma! We are praying her toe can heal fast and she can finally get back to normal.

The toe diagnosis

This is the x-ray of the toe. The one right of her pinkie toe.
So I took Alexia to the doctor today because her toe is still swollen after 6 and 1/2 weeks. As the nurse takes our information, she makes the comment," Well we will take an x-ray, but there is nothing you can do for a broken toe, but ice it and let it heal." So of course I feel a little frustrated and thinking I am wasting money and that is what everyone has told me, but it is not working!! After waiting for the doctor for over 45 minutes he comes in with the x-rays and apologized for taking so long, but that he has been staring at the x-rays for a while trying to decide what to do. Not a great sign. The bone was not broken at all but dislocated and the jammed back over the other bone. He could not believe she actually could stand the pain to walk around on it this long, and was floored that she actually danced on it and tried out for drill with it. She is one tough girl! So he tried to relocated it by pulling at the toe until his hands were shaking and getting sweaty. Very painful for Lex, she did great though, not a tear just a mangled flip flop in her hands. But no luck the bone has been there too long so tomorrow we go to a podiatrists and he will try to pop it back. I don't know if I can stomach watching. I hate seeing my kids in pain, nothing is worse.

Going Back To Granger!

I had so much fun last Monday visiting with some of my best friends from high school!! It was Grangers drill team year end show and some of us who use to be on drill team, long long ago, decided to have a reunion! It was a blast. I felt like it was just yesterday we were all there together. We probably drove everyone crazy around us because we could not stop talking and bringing up old memories of our years together. I loved listening to all of them remembering things I had forgotten and hearing them laugh just made me feel so young again. I kept Lex up way late and made her laugh seeing me act just like a teenager again! Fun times!

Lookin Cute for tryouts!

This has been quite an exciting March, Alexia made Copperhills Drill team! I don't know who is more excited me or her! Probably her, but I know what is coming and I can't wait to see her perform and see her be part of a team that is so disciplined and dedicated. They only took 6 new members and a lot of girls tried out. She even did it all with a broken toe. She had a great testimony experience of Fathers blessing to add; She hadn't been able to dance at all on her foot for about 2 weeks, and we didn't know how she could possibly tryout. She asked for a fathers blessing the night before and told us that she just kept praying during the tryout that it wouldn't hurt her, and every time it was her turn she couldn't feel any pain as she leaped, turned and did all kinds of crazy things on it. Call it adrenaline, but I truly believe we have a loving Heavenly Father that knows all of our desires and wants us to be happy, and she was truly blessed! Some people might not think that trying out for drill team is that big a deal, but when you have taken dance since you were 3 years old and had that goal for many years, it is! The next day her whole foot was really swollen! She had to sit out her first competition with Hip dance on Saturday and we hope it will be better by her next one and before first 5:00am drill practice in three weeks. Did I say 5:00 AM? YES I did!

Words of Wisdom by Parker

Sunday:
Parker, "Mom, is uncle Reid on the High Council now?" (His uncle was set apart to be in our Bishopric). Me,"No he is just in the Bishopric now." Parker, "Too bad, I know what the High Councilors do." Me, "Oh, whats that?" Parker, "They are the only ones who can cancel church meetings that is why they are called the High Cancelers!"
He couldn't figure out why I was on the ground laughing so hard after that, I kind of hurt his feelings, but it is just so funny the thing kids think that make so much sense!
